Dunkerton and Western Christian advance at boys’ tourney

March 13, 2014 By Todd Kimm

Fifth ranked Dunkerton connected on eight of its first ten three pointers to build a 15-point lead then held off a late rally by Belmond-Klemme to post a 53-49 victory and earn a trip to the class 1A championship game. Senior guard Trevor Jacobsen was four of five from three point range and finished with a game high 20 points. Jacobsen says he gained confidence after making his first couple of shots.
Elijah Kinseth led Belmond-Klemme with 18 points. The Broncos could get no closer than four points down the stretch.

Class 2A
Top ranked Western Christian roared back from an early 13 point deficit to post a 52-46 win over Cascade in a class 2A semifinal round game. The Wolfpack take a 26-0 mark into the title game. “They’re a good team, that zone is so tough,” Western Christian coach Jim Eekhoff says. He says they had to stay patient and work hard. After getting off to a fast start Cascade cooled off in the second half and made only five of 17 shots.
