Grenade found in trunk of car after traffic stop in Windsor Heights

Police in the Des Moines suburb of Windsor Heights got a scare after finding a grenade in the trunk of a car following a routine traffic stop. Officers cleared the area and called in the Des Moines bomb squad.

The bomb squad found the grenade was not live. Police charged the driver, 40-year-old Lee Nelson of Adel, with carrying weapons, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
