A school employee in north-central Iowa has been placed on leave after being charged with fraud. Hancock County Attorney David Solheim says an investigator from the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Medicaid Fraud Control Unit filed two criminal complaints on Tuesday against Brooke Banse.

The complaints accuse her of first-degree fraudulent practice and tampering with records. According to the complaints, Banse allegedly submitted records and received federal Medicaid payments in excess of $10,000 for services that Banse did not provide. Banse was arrested with the assistance of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and posted bond Tuesday night.

Online court records do not indicate a date of her next court appearance. Banse works for the Garner-Hayfield school district as a student advocate and at-risk coordinator. The Garner-Hayfield School Board during an emergency session this morning placed Banse on paid administrative leave pending the resolution of the criminal charges.
