Pipe break leads to wastewater release into Mississippi

March 20, 2014 By Matt Kelley

Thousands of gallons of wastewater entered the Mississippi River near Clinton this week. A break in a pipe is blamed for 50,000 gallons of raw domestic wastewater being dumped into the river Tuesday evening.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the break was repaired and water suppliers in Davenport, Fort Madison, Burlington and Keokuk were notified of the discharge. The DNR reports the wastewater was not released into a public area and would not pose a threat to public health.
