Des Moines man shot after driving at police

March 21, 2014 By Matt Kelley

A Des Moines man is hospitalized after being shot by police late last night. Police were called to a residential neighborhood just before midnight after several 911 calls about shots being fired.

Officers found several parked cars had been shot and blocked off the street. As officers were picking up cartridge cases, an SUV drove up and accelerated toward the officers. Three of the officers fired at the driver and the vehicle sped off.

The vehicle was found outside a house nearby and inside, police found 30-year-old Shawntee Young suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He’s listed in stable condition. There’s no word yet on charges.

The three officers are on administrative leave as required as required by department policy while the shooting is investigated.
