A Des Moines man who ran as the “Iowa Party” candidate for governor in 2010 is asking the Iowa Supreme Court to overturn a decision that he is not eligible for the 2014 Democratic Primary ballot.

The Iowa Secretary of State ruled Jonathan Narcisse did not present enough petition signatures to qualify as a Democratic gubernatorial candidate for the June Primary. Some of Narcisse’s petition signatures were tossed out because his name was not listed at the top of the petition pages. Narcisse argues those petitions should have been accepted because similar mistakes on petitions were made by a congressional candidate who qualified for the ballot in 2012.

A district court ruled against Narcisse Thursday. Narcisse, in a written statement, said if he loses his case in the Iowa Supreme Court, he’ll mount a write-in campaign for the June primary and he is considering another run as a third party candidate in November.
