Victim identified in Charles City fire

April 1, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities have identified the man who died in a house fire in Charles City on Monday. Charles City officials say 27-year-old Joshua Nelson was a resident of the building. Nelson was found dead inside one of the apartments that was part of the large house that had been converted into a four-plex.

Firefighters have determined that the fire started in a piece of furniture on the porch. The cause remains under investigation, but the department believes it is due to improperly discarded cigarette. The building has been called a total loss.
