Cornell baseball looking to get into title race

April 4, 2014 By Todd Kimm

Off to its best start since 2007 the Cornell College baseball team hopes to make a run at the title as the Midwest Conference race is set to begin. Cornell has a record of 8-6 and third year coach Seth Wing credits improved pitching and defense, and he credits his coaches for preparing the players.

Opponents are batting .260, 50 points lower than a year ago and the staff earned run average has been cut nearly in half. “Our strikeout to walk ratio is close to 2 to 1 and we really have shot for that goal,” Wing says.

Cornell opens the Midwest Conference race this weekend by playing Knox College in a four game series. He says they split in the series last year and the goal is to get three out of four and set themselves up for a division championship.

Cornell finished second in the South Division last year and Wing feels they can take the next step this season as they have the offense and defense it will take to compete for the top spot.
