The state medical examiner has issued a cause of death for the former Des Moines developer who was found in a burned out car in Guthrie County. Doctor Julia Goodin determined the cause of death for Bob Knapp was multiple cuts on the upper and lower body complicated by smoke and soot inhalation.

Goodin has classified the death a suicide. Knapp’s body was found in the burned out car on March 30th, just days after he got out of federal prison. The autopsy report released by the DCI did not list a time of death. He was 64 and federal officials were looking for him at the time for a parole violation.

Knapp was sent to prison after pleading guilty to illegally removing asbestos out of a Des Moines building he was renovating.
