Two escapees from Eldora State Training School remain on the loose

April 14, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

State officials now say six of the eight young men who escaped from the State Training School in Eldora last week have been caught. Amy McCoy, spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Human Services, which operates the facility, says the boys fled into the woods last Thursday night as they were being escorted from the gymnasium to their cottage.

“Five were brought back to the cottage within an hour,” McCoy says. “Three others were at large over the weekend. Our understanding is that last evening, one of the youth was picked up in Cedar Rapids. He will be transported back to the facility today. Two others still remain at large.”

No names have been released. The search is still underway for the two missing boys.
