Delaware County fire victim identified as Oneida business owner

April 22, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities have released the name of the woman who was killed in a fire in northeast Iowa Sunday afternoon. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 78-year-old Genny Bennett of Oneida.

Bennett’s body was found in a cornfield by Greeley firefighters after they were called to put out a brush fire. The Sheriff’s Office says Bennett was apparently burning brush when the fire got out of control.

Bennett was the owner of Oneida Nameplate, a local company that has been selling medical jewelry and other items worldwide for over 50 years.
