Nominations being taken for best pork tenderloin

April 28, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Nominations will be accepted starting Thursday for Iowa’s 12th annual Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest. Kelsey Sutter, with the Iowa Pork Producers Council, says entries can be submitted via the website, www.iowapork.org. “You need three nominations to enter the judging portion of the competition,” Sutter says. “Pork producers from around the state will judge the first round and then our committee will select the top five in the early fall so we can announce the winner during National Pork Month in October.”

Out of 45 restaurants nominated last year, the winner was the River Rock Cafe in Mount Pleasant. Sutter says the statewide competition has a wide reach.

“We get requests all the time of, ‘Can we have the list of the top ten winners?’ because people really follow the contest and make a weekend trip around the state wanting to taste all of the top five tenderloins,” Sutter says.

Nominations will be accepted through June 9th. The winning restaurant gets $500, a plaque and banner to display in the establishment, statewide publicity and bragging rights for the year.
