Fire destroys business in Jewell

Fire gutted a business in north-central Iowa’s Hamilton County last night. The fire destroyed the Hagen Welding building at 904 Main Street in Jewell.

Jewell Fire Chief Duane Hendrickson said the fire started at about 7 Tuesday evening with fire trucks on the scene into early this morning. The business was closed when the fire started with no injuries reported.

Fire departments from Jewell, Ellsworth, Kamrar,Stanhope and Stratford provided equipment and water in fighting the blaze. A portion of U.S. Highway 69 through Jewell was blocked off to traffic for few hours due to the fire. The state fire marshall has been called to investigate the fire scene.
