MCC softball tournament ready to decide regional bid

April 30, 2014 By Todd Kimm

The Midwest Collegiate Conference softball tournament begins on Thursday with two games. St. Ambrose hosts Viterbo in Davenport and Mount Mercy hosts Clarke. The winners join William Penn and Grand View in the Final Four Tournament this weekend.

William Penn is the top seed and serves as host after winning seven straight games last week to rally to the regular season title. William Penn coach Mike Christner says he is proud of the way they team showed up determined to get the title.  He says his team is playing its best at the right time. “They knew that the conference title was on the line…but they also knew that it was in their hands. All they had to do was sweep out and the conference would be theirs and that’s exactly what they did,” Christner says.

Christner says the format this weekend will be double elimination. The 1 and 2 seeds get a bye and number 1 hosts with the 3 seed playing the 6th seed and the 4th playing the 5th to get into the final four. The winner of the tournament goes to nationals.
