The parent company for Iowa’s largest energy supplier has a new name. MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company has changed its name to Berkshire Hathaway Energy. Julie White, a spokesperson for Des Moines-based MidAmerican Energy, says the name change won’t affect the names or operations of the businesses Berkshire Hathaway Energy owns.
“MidAmerican Energy Company, the locally managed utility that provides electric and natural gas service to customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and South Dakota, will continue to operate under its current name,” White explained in a conference call with reporters this morning.
MidAmerican Energy customers should not notice anything different about their services or bills. “They will still receive a monthly statement from MidAmerican Energy Company,” White said. “It will look the same and they’ll still act the same way.” Berkshire Hathaway is a publicly traded company based in Omaha led by Warren Buffett.
Kelly Groehler is the vice-president of communications and public affairs for Berkshire Hathaway Energy Holdings Company. “It’s a new name that reflects the benefits we gain from Berkshire Hathaway’s ownership, particularly our ability to reinvest in our businesses and take a long-term view of energy needs of all of our customers,” Groehler said.
MidAmerican Energy Company provides electric service to 739,000 customers and natural gas service to 719,000 customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota.
