Iowa Falls man found guilty in death of young daughter

May 2, 2014 By Matt Kelley

An Iowa Falls man is going to prison for the death of his infant daughter. A jury in Waterloo on Thursday found Trevor Smith guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of 7-week-old Aubriana Christian.

Smith was caring for the girl in September 2012 when she stopped breathing. Doctors determined Aubriana had a brain bleed that wasn’t caused by an accident and she was removed from life support on October 2, 2012. Investigators said Smith admitted to shaking Aubriana because she wouldn’t stop crying and when he dropped her onto a bed, her head struck a nearby changing table.

The jury’s decision means Smith now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
