A Colorado man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop in eastern Iowa last night. A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy was warned about a possible drunk driver on Interstate 80 after the driver had allegedly thrown beer cans at a convenience store.

The deputy found the suspect vehicle, which was pulled over on I-80 near Oxford just before 8 p.m. The deputy reported smelling alcohol in the vehicle and spotted a bud of marijuana, which prompted a search. That led to the discovery of 1.3 pounds of dry marijuana plants.

The driver of the vehicle, 55-year-old Thomas Lueders, of Golden, Colorado, is now charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. A passenger, 33-year-old Dustin Hammond of Park Forest, Illinois, faces a charge of possession of marijuana.
