An international popcorn company based in northwest Iowa is celebrating one-hundred years as a family-owned business by giving cash grants to people or organizations who bring joy to others through good deeds. Tracy Boever is spokeswoman for Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City which is taking nominations over the next month.

“Kernels of Kindness is a campaign where we’re going to be giving away $100,000,” Boever says. “One-hundred winners will receive $1,000 each and basically, we’re just looking for people who do kind acts in their community.”

To nominate someone, there’s a short form to fill out at the company website, WWW.JollyTime.com. “It could be a grandma that bakes cookies for the local firehouse or a teenager who goes and visits sick kids up at the hospital and brings them stuffed animals or balloons,” Boever says, “we’re just looking for anybody who does those kind acts.” Nominations have to be in by June 15th.

The fifth-generation company sells its popcorn in all 50 states and 40 foreign countries. Jolly Time has sold nearly three-billion pounds of popcorn since its founding in Sioux City in 1914.
