Riceville teen dies in accident

May 20, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A junior at Riceville High School is dead after a two-vehicle crash east of McIntire in Mitchell County on Monday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 12:40 PM at the intersection of 470th Street and Windfall Avenue.

Seventeen-year-old Ryan Gaffey of Riceville was traveling in a pickup northbound on Windfall when he collided with a semi traveling eastbound driven by 60-year-old Gary Kneeskern of Preston Minnesota. Gaffey was transported to the Mitchell County Regional Healthcare Center where he was pronounced dead.

Kneeskern was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
