Iowa homeowners could win a valuable prize by sharing their story about how buying a home positively impacted their lives.  The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) and the Iowa Association of Realtors are sponsoring the contest through June – which is national homeownership month.

IFA executive director Dave Jamison discussed the rules of the contest today at a news conference in Des Moines. “To participate, Iowa homeowners and home buyers need to submit their fun, touching, or entertaining home ownership stories in 140 words or less,” Jamison said.

Entries are to be submitted through the IFA website: www.IowaFinanceAuthority.gov/Contest. The deadline for submissions is June 30 and an accompanying picture or 30-second video is encouraged.

A panel of judges will “score” the submissions and the top 10 submissions will then be posted to Facebook for voting by the public between July 7-11. “Whatever your story, we encourage you to share it. You can tug at our heart strings, you can make us laugh, or you can inspire us,” Jamison said. “We want to hear how homeownership has made dreams come true for you.”

The entry with the most public votes will receive a $5,000 gift card to Lowe’s. Other entrants could win other prizes throughout June. “A surprise squad will be traveling the state and providing random prize award to entrants,” Jamison said. The Iowa Finance Authority runs a variety of programs that offer assistance to home buyers and renters.
