The General Manager of the new Hard Rock Casino under construction in Sioux City says they will open on August 1st. General Manager Todd Moyer says they are in the process of hiring 500 people to work in the 128-million dollar facility. Moyer says the recruitment efforts have gone very well, and they have a lot of interested applicants. He says they are inviting anyone interested in joining the casino to apply. A firm date for the opening had not previously been announced.

Moyer says they are still working on the details of the grand opening. Mark Monson, the leader of the non-profit group Missouri River Historical Development (MRHD), says he is looking forward to the opening. “We will start to draw down funds and make it possible for us to get back into providing grants to nonprofits within the county. And to develop some interest in economic development to make sure Woodbury County grows,” Mark Monson says.

MRHD had worked with the casino riverboat, but the company that runs the boat has not paid MHRD in several months. Penn National Gaming is holding the money normally given to MRHD in a separate account as it goes through bankruptcy.
