Texas Governor Rick Perry is campaigning with Governor Terry Branstad today, making stops in Ames this morning and in Spencer and Le Mars this afternoon. The website for Perry’s political action committee, Americans for Economic Freedom, features a new video touting Branstad’s work.

“Conservative governors are reforming taxes and regulations, helping small businesses grow. Conservative leadership is putting people back to work and families are growing their futures,” Perry says in the video. “We need more of that and less of Washington.”

Perry campaigned in eastern Iowa on Wednesday with Matt Whitaker, one of the five Republican candidates running for Iowa’s U.S. Senate seat. Perry denies this trip is a tune-up for another race for the White House in 2016, just as Perry did during a visit to Iowa in February.

“2014 is where the focus is,” Perry said during an appearance on Iowa Public Television.

During a tour of a factory in Hiawatha on yesterday afternoon, Perry called Whitaker a “loyal friend” who “will not be intimidated” if he goes to Washington, D.C. to serve in the U.S. Senate. Whitaker endorsed Perry in 2011 and campaigned with the Texas governor leading up to the 2012 Iowa Caucuses.
