Iowa man drowns after arrest for drunk boating in Missouri

June 2, 2014 By Matt Kelley

A central Iowa man drowned over the weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Authorities say 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson of Clive was handcuffed and in a police boat that was bringing him in to face a charge of boating while intoxicated on Saturday.

Officers say he either jumped or fell overboard. His body was recovered on Sunday by a dive team. The Missouri State Patrol says Ellingson was wearing a life jacket but it evidently slipped off when he hit the water. Ellingson was a student at Arizona State University.
