Police in Cedar Falls have received dozens of tips from a hotline set up to help with a murder investigation. Twenty-one-year-old Norman Gant of Waterloo was shot and killed early Sunday morning.

Gant was found lying injured in the front yard of a home near the University of Northern Iowa. He later died at a hospital. Police Captain Craig Berte says although officers are pursuing several leads, the case is not likely to be solved quickly. “There’s a lot of leg work to conduct interviews, and do the court required paperwork, especially when you take into account Facebook and Twitter. If you’re interviewing 20 or 25 people, you’re talking weeks of work not a day or two of work,” Berte says.

While the suspect in the fatal shooting remains at large, Berte says it’s not believed people in the area are at risk. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Cedar Falls Police Department or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers.
