A central Iowa police officer is recovering from injuries after his squad car was struck by another vehicle. Huxley Police Officer Nick Swanson was treated and released from a hospital after the incident last night.

Huxley Police Chief Mark Pote says Swanson was sent out to check on a report of cattle on Interstate 35 and he was driving slowly on an overpass. “He had his emergency lights on and the other vehicle struck him from behind and pushed him off the roadway,” Pote said.

The woman who was driving the other vehicle was not injured. “She was charged with OWI,” Pote said. “The Story County Sheriff’s office took care of the drunk driving issue and the Iowa State Patrol handled the accident investigation.” The woman charged with OWI is identified as 38-year-old Kasi Stahl of Nevada.

Pote says Swanson has some bumps and bruises but will be okay.
