State investigating after toddler wanders across roadway in Northwood

June 10, 2014 By Matt Kelley

The Iowa Department of Human Services is investigating an incident in north-central Iowa involving a toddler who wandered away from his home. The 3-year-old boy was found at 6 a.m. Monday near a convenience store in Northwood. It’s believed he had crossed a busy intersection.

Residents in the area were notified by an alert system as the Worth County Sheriff’s office had not received any reports about a missing child. The boy’s parents were then notified by a neighbor who received the alert call. Investigators say the parents didn’t realize the boy was missing for roughly three hours and he’d wandered about three blocks from his home.

The names of the boy and his parents have not been released.
