Rock Valley evacuated as Rock River rises

June 17, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A small town in northwest Iowa was hard hit by rain and fast-moving floodwaters. The city of Rock Valley was evacuated last night due to the rising Rock River and flooding, with reports saying the river crested 11 feet over flood stage. The mayor has declared a state of emergency. Residents were moved from their homes to shelters. Much sandbagging is underway and Highway 18 into Rock Valley is closed.
