Body of man recovered from Skunk River in Ames

Update 9:45: Police have now identified the drowning victim as 29-year-old Philip Frystak of Ames. He was a graduate student at Iowa State University who is originally from New Jersey.

The body of a man reported missing on the Skunk River in Ames has been recovered. Ames police say the man was on an inner tube on the Skunk River when he fell off the tube and disappeared just before 3 p.m.

A dive team was called in and the man’s body was found just before 7 p.m. near the spot where he went into the water. His name is not being released. Ames police say the water levels on the river are very high after recent rains and they are recommending that people not go into the water until the levels drop.
