A search is underway in southeast Iowa after a man went into a river and didn’t resurface. The man was with friends at a park along the Des Moines River near Ottumwa when the incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office reports the man and his friends had been jumping into the river from a rope tied to a tree. Rescue crews searched the river for a couple hours last night and resumed the search this morning. The man’s name has not been released.
