Judge keeps Sioux City riverboat casino open a little longer

June 26, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A Polk County District Court judge issued a stay to keep the Argosy Riverboat Casino in Sioux City open a few more days. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission refused a request from casino operator Penn Gaming Wednesday to keep the casino open beyond the July 1st closing date set by the commission.

Judge Eliza Ovrum issued the order today keeping the casino open until July 10th to allow her to resume a hearing in the ongoing dispute over the casino’s closing. The IRGC ordered the casino closed after it failed to come to an agreement with its nonprofit partner. The commission awarded a new license for a Hard Rock Casino that is scheduled to open in the downtown area on August 1st.
