A 51-year-old southwest Iowa woman has been sentenced to prison for Social Security fraud.

A federal judge sentenced Sharon Jean Manchester of Farragut to a year and one day in prison. In February she plead guilty to committing Social Security fraud for nearly five years. The judge ordered her to pay nearly $49,000 to the Social Security Administration.

Prosecutors say Manchester claimed she wasn’t getting financial support from her husband in order to qualify for Social Security benefits. Investigators say she was getting money from her spouse and Andrew Manchester, her husband, has pleaded guilty to possession of a false document. He hasn’t been sentenced yet.
