A Des Moines teenager is now in jail after Wednesday night’s beating of an elderly couple that left one of them dead, the other hospitalized.

The victims are identified as 97-year-old Rupert Anderson, who died of his injuries shortly after the break-in and attack, and his 94-year-old wife, Harriet. She’s listed in stable condition.

Police say Mrs. Anderson called 911 last night to report she and her husband were being assaulted in their east side home, where they ran the Vista Boarding Kennels for decades. She described the suspect and a short time later, 19-year-old Ngor Makuey was arrested in the attack. He’s charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.
