Sex offender who fled the state arrested in Oklahoma

August 8, 2014 By Dar Danielson

The Department of Human Services says a sex offender man who fled the state last weekend has been caught in Oklahoma. A news release from the DHS says 42-year-old man Cory West failed to report back to a transition unit for sex offenders at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute last Sunday.

U.S. Marshals found West Thursday evening at a motel in Tulsa, Oklahoma and arrested him. West was ordered into a sex offender program by a Wappello County Court order in 2011. He was sent to the unit at Cherokee in the fall of last year where he was being reviewed to determine if he was likely to commit further sex offenses, or if he should be released.

West now faces an escape charge and is waiting on extradition back to the state.
