Iowa Falls man sentenced to life term in death of daughter

August 19, 2014 By Matt Kelley

An Iowa Falls man was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the death of his daughter. Twenty-eight-year-old Trevor Smith faced the mandatory sentence after a jury in Waterloo on May 1 found Smith guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of 7-week-old Aubriana Christian.

Smith was caring for his daughter in September 2012 when she stopped breathing. She was removed from life support on October 2, 2012. Investigators said Smith admitted to shaking Aubriana because she wouldn’t stop crying and when he dropped her onto a bed, her head struck a nearby changing table.

In addition to the life prison term without parole, a judge ordered Smith to pay $150,000 in restitution.
