Health care summit for smaller towns set for next week

September 27, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Health care and business professionals in many of Iowa’s small-to-mid-sized towns will be gathering for an annual summit next week. Indira Karic is executive director of the Heartland Rural Physician Alliance, which is sponsoring the meeting.

“Heartland Rural Physician Alliance was formed as an alliance of independent minded physicians and health care providers, as well as administrators and clinics. It was formed to help its members transform their practices and be able to work toward a patient-centered medical home environment,” Karic says.

There are 100 members who belong to the alliance. Karic says the keynote speaker for the conference is Bruce Bagley, President and CEO of TransforMED. “He will talk about the future of primary care…and the ingredients for successful primary care practices in the next five years,” Karic says.

Other speakers include Dr. Bob Rauner with Nebraska’s Rural Physician Alliance and Dr. Phil Gaziano the founder and CEO of Accountable Care Associates in Massachusetts. The summit is scheduled for Friday, October 3 at the Courtyard Marriott in Ankeny.
