Cedar Rapids police have arrested a man wanted for murder in Waterloo. James Robert Ernst II was arrested without incident at a home on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids early Thursday morning.

On Tuesday, Waterloo police asked for the public’s help in locating the 25-year-old Ernst, of Cedar Rapids, after issuing a first-degree murder warrant for his arrest. Investigators believe Ernst shot and killed Orintheo Campbell, Jr. outside a Waterloo convenience store on December 6.

Cedar Rapids police located Ernst around 2 a.m. Thursday while following up on a tip they received from Waterloo police. Ernst was taken to the Linn County Jail, where the first-degree murder warrant was served.
