Work is underway to repair the sports dome at St. Ambrose University in Davenport that collapsed in a heavy snowfall. St. Ambrose vice president, Mike Poster, says the snow weighed the dome down and sharp objects inside then did the real damage. “Once it hits those sharp items, it starts to create additional punctures in the bubble, and so that’s really why it came down,” Poster explains.

The remaining crumpled pile of fabric now needs to be patched by a specialized out-of-state crew. He says they have a plan to repair the bubble and hopefully get it reinflated in four to five weeks. The dozens of St. Ambrose athletes who normally train in the bubble are borrowing other Quad-Cities area indoor facilities to keep in shape until the bubble is back up.
