gavel-thumbnailAn eastern Iowa mother and son are both going to federal prison for selling synthetic marijuana commonly known as K-2 and bath salts. Fifty-three year old Mary Ann Ramos of Evansdale was found guilty by a jury in June of two counts of distribution of the synthetic drugs as well as two counts of possession with intent to distribute those same synthetic drugs.

Her son, 26-year-old Earl James Ramos pled guilty to one count of distributing a controlled substance. Evidence showed Mary Ann Ramos sold the drugs out of the store where she worked in Cedar Rapids and Earl sold the drugs at a convenience store he managed in Waterloo. She was sentenced to 60 months in prison and he was sentenced to 57 months.

The mother and son were arrested in 2013 as part of federal operation known as Project Synergy that was designed to crack down on synthetic drug manufacturers and distributors.
