Chanda Zomermaand scored 19 points as top ranked Unity Christian advanced to the class 2A semifinals with a 53-34 win over Cascade. The Knights remained unbeaten despite shooting only 35 percent and committing 20 turnovers. “It was a good win, things were a little messy during the game, we had a lot of turnovers and stuff like that, but overall we won and get to move on Thursday,” Zomermaand says

Zomermaand says while happy with the win there is plenty to work on. “We are not satisfied with that and we definitely know we can do better,” Zomermaand says.

In other 2A games, third ranked North Linn got 31 from Nicole Miller to beat Des Moines Christian 57-46. Sixth ranked South Central Calhoun beat fourth ranked IKM Maning 65-50.

Class 1A

Top ranked Burlington Notre Dame outscored Central Lyon 20-4 to start the fourth quarter in a 78-60 victory in a class 1A quarterfinal.

Rachel Smith scored 22 points as second ranked Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton stayed unbeaten with a 63-48 win over Bedford in a 1A quarterfinal round game.

“What we say as a team is ‘we live to play another day.’ I mean that’s all it’s about, we get to come back, I just so happy for the team, it’s awesome,” Smith says.

Exira/EHK never trailed in running its record to 25-0.
