Iowa State University released information today that says Athletic Director Jamie Pollard will be transferred this afternoon to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for continuing care and treatment following a heart attack he suffered Monday afternoon. Pollard was admitted and treated at Allen Hospital in Waterloo but the move to Des Moines Methodist gets him closer to home.

The information from ISU says Pollard will have open heart surgery later in the week in Des Moines.

“It has been overwhelming to have received so many messages of support,” Pollard said. “Our family is so appreciative of the uplifting and encouraging thoughts and prayers.”

A news release from Iowa State University says Athletic Director Jamie Pollard was taken by ambulance Monday afternoon to Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Pollard suffered a heart attack while watching his daughters compete in the girls varsity invitational track meet on the UNI campus in Cedar Falls.

The release says Pollard spent Monday night in the hospital for observation and treatment. He remains hospitalized at Allen today. The news release did not give Pollard’s condition, but says additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

Iowa State President Steven Leath has appointed Senior Associate Athletics Director David Harris the acting athletic director while Pollard recuperates.
