NCAA wrestling tourney gets underway

March 19, 2015 By Matt Kelley

The NCAA Wrestling Tournament is underway in St. Louis. The second-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, hoping to claim their first team title since 2010, won 6 of 10 matches in the opening session.

Josh Dziewa, the number-5 seed at 141, and third-seeded heavyweight Bobby Telford were among the Hawkeyes to lose in the first round. In the team race, Iowa is in a three-way tie for fifth. Ohio State leads the field.

Iowa State has seven wrestlers in the tournament. Just two Cyclones posted wins, as Michael Moreno — the number two seed at 165 — lost his opening match. Four Northern Iowa wrestlers are competing in St. Louis. Two Panthers advanced with wins, 165-pounder Cooper Moore and heavyweight Blaize Cabell.
