dnr-LOGO-thmbAn official with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the protection of Iowa’s environment is the responsibility of every community, business, organization, farmer and citizen. Many Iowans are leaders in preserving our state’s natural resources — and they deserve recognition.

The DNR’s Emily Bainter says applications are now being accepted for this year’s Iowa Environmental Excellence Awards. “These awards are the premiere environmental honors in Iowa,” Bainter says. “We recognize leadership and innovation and the protection of Iowa’s natural resources. Governor Branstad is very supportive of this awards program and is always excited to see the winners recognized for these great projects.” There are several categories for the awards.

“We have the overall environmental excellence category that recognizes comprehensive environmental success and effort,” Bainter says. “We also have special project awards for air quality, energy efficiency, habitat restoration, waste management, water quality and environmental education, as well.” The deadline for nominations is May 20th.
