UNI visits Iowa State today in an intra-state softball contest. The Panthers are coming off what coach Ryan Jacobs called their best weekend in several years when they swept a three game series against Southern Illinois.

UNI takes a five game winning streak into the game against the Cyclones. Jacobs says the job now is to stay focused and not waiver from the good things they have been doing to get the wins.

Iowa State is 18-11 on the season and tomorrow’s game will end a 10 day layoff for the Cyclones. ISU coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler says they had some games postponed by the weather and they are ready to play. She says her players enjoy the challenge of the in-state games. “Anytime that we are playing someone in-state they get excited,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler

Junior Brittany Gomez leads the Cyclones with a sparkling .448 batting average. “She’s just a special player, a special person…she sets the table for us every time, and just to know that we are going to have somebody that gets on base multiple times pretty much every game, that’s nice to rely on,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler says.
