Police CarPolice in southeast Iowa say a man was killed in a car wreck last night after fleeing the scene of a hit and run crash. Twenty-three-year-old Andrew Scholtus of Oskaloosa was driving a truck in Fremont around 6:40 p.m., when authorities say he accelerated through an intersection and struck a car driven by Jeanne Fincher of Fremont.

Scholtus fled the scene, while Fincher was taken to Mahaska Health Partnership by ambulance for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Approximately 20 minutes later, Scholtus’ truck left a roadway and struck a bridge guardrail, coming to rest in a ditch.

Scholtus was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died later at Mahaska Health Partnership. Both accidents remain under investigation.
