Waldorf College student dies in kayak accident

April 13, 2015 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Ambulance-Back-DoorA senior from Waldorf College is dead after a boating accident in Hancock County on Saturday.

A message sent from Waldorf President Robert Alsop to faculty and students confirmed that Timothy Brown Junior, a criminal justice student and football player, died when his small kayak overturned Saturday at the Torkelson Pits Conservation Area.

Alsop says Brown was scheduled to graduate in May. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was called shortly after noon on Saturday to the conservation area about four miles southeast of Forest City. After a two-hour search, Brown’s body was found about 50 feet from shore and pulled from about 12 feet of water by the Forest City Fire Department. Brown was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
