GavelThe Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the involuntary manslaughter conviction against a trucker for an accident in Mount Pleasant that killed a father and his two-year-old daughter.

The accident happened on a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 2012.

The trucker, who was from Waterloo, parked his semi in the right lane of Highway 34 so he could look at a trailer that was for sale at a used car lot near the highway.

There’s a slight curve in the road at that point and investigators believe the 23-year-old man from West Burlington who was driving the SUV that slammed into the parked truck didn’t have enough time to react.

The man’s child was in a safety seat, but both the father and daughter were killed in the crash.

The Iowa Court of Appeals rejected the trucker’s argument his actions did not rise to the level of “recklessness” and upheld his conviction.
