Calvin Matthews and Nick Hibbing combined on a four hit shutout as the 15th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team won at Michigan 2-0. The Hawkeyes take two of three games in the Big Ten series.
Iowa coach Rick Heller says Mathews executed the game plan perfectly and was able to handle the Michigan hitters. The Hawkeyes got the only run they needed in the top of the third and added an insurance tally in the fifth.
The Hawkeyes are now 15-3 in the Big Ten and it is Iowa’s seventh straight win of a Big Ten series. “I loved our approach today, we came out business like, very professional, our captains did a great job and I knew we were ready to play,” Heller says.
Iowa is now 33-12 overall and will host Western Illinois on Tuesday night.
