Fire-truckSeveral people were overcome by fumes Wednesday at a chicken facility near George in northwest Iowa.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday about people experiencing respiratory problems, nausea, blurred vision and other symptoms while working in the barns that were under quarantine due to the avian flu.

Eleven workers were wearing masks while washing the walls of the facility following a bird flu outbreak. Several of the workers were taken to hospitals in Sheldon and Rock Rapids. None of their injuries were serious.
