The bomb squad was called to a home in Council Bluffs last night after a woman found a grenade in her cellar. Sergeant Jason LeMaster, at the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department, says the call came about 7 p.m. regarding a suspicious device.

He says a woman found her late husband had a grenade stored in an old foot locker in the basement. The ordinance was placed in a protective pouch and brought back to the sheriff’s office where it was placed in the bomb bunker.

The device, which was described as being a flat green “pineapple” shape, with some blue paint on it, will be stored for safe keeping, until it can be destroyed. It’s not clear whether the grenade was live or inert, and meant only for practice.
