Police-car-backThe Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in after  Fairfield police were involved in a high-speed chase that resulted in them firing shots early Tuesday morning.

At around 1 a.m., Fairfield police officers attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of 12th and Jefferson Street. The driver refused to stop and continued to elude officers, eventually leading them into Van Buren County before ending the chase two miles south of Birmingham.

Fairfield Police Captain Colin Smith stated that at some point in the chase, officers discharged their weapons. No injuries occurred during the chase and the name of the officers involved and the suspect have not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
